The White Salmon Valley Education Foundation (WSVEF) has appointed Darby McAdams as its new executive director. McAdams, a resident of White Salmon, brings a diverse background in filmmaking, outdoor leadership, and community engagement to the position, according to a press release from the foundation.

McAdams has been a prominent community organizer, known for her leadership in various local events, including the Little White Salmon Race. She has also produced several film projects aimed at promoting nonprofit initiatives. One of her recent significant contributions was to the documentary Paddle Tribal Waters, which followed Native youth as they completed the first source-to-sea descent of the Klamath River. This historic journey occurred in July 2023 and garnered national attention, with coverage in major publications such as The New York Times and The Washington Post.

In her new role, McAdams will guide the foundation’s ongoing efforts to support teachers, students, and schools within the White Salmon Valley. Her leadership will be pivotal as the foundation prepares for its annual fundraiser, the Gorge Grape Escape, scheduled for October 4, 2023, at the Best Western Plus Hood River Inn. This year’s event will feature an Enchanted Forest theme, including dinner, live and silent auctions, and a celebration honoring local educators and students.

McAdams expressed her enthusiasm for the position, stating, “I am excited to work with the community to further the mission of the WSVEF. Together, we can continue to create opportunities for students and enhance educational experiences in our area.” Her commitment to community engagement is expected to inspire increased participation and support for the foundation’s initiatives.

The WSVEF, dedicated to enriching the educational landscape of the White Salmon Valley, looks forward to leveraging McAdams’s extensive experience and passion for community service to drive its mission forward.
