The University of Texas at Austin has been recognized as one of the top 10 most cost-effective universities for graduates pursuing careers in technology. This finding comes from a recent study conducted by DataCamp, a data science education platform, which analyzed universities ranked highly in the QS World University Rankings for Computer Science and Information Systems.

The study specifically evaluated the number of graduates employed at five leading tech companies—Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft—in relation to the annual cost of attendance at each institution. The data highlighted that the University of Texas ranks ninth, with 6,598 graduates working at these major employers and an annual cost of attendance of $18,850.

At the top of the list is the University of Washington, which boasts 14,745 graduates employed in similar roles, with a significantly lower annual cost of $12,777. The University of Texas is the only institution from Texas included in this ranking, underscoring its competitiveness in the field of technology education.

Recognitions and Rankings

The recognition from DataCamp complements other accolades the University of Texas has received. According to U.S. News & World Report, the university ranks sixth for undergraduate analytics, seventh in both management information systems and artificial intelligence, and ninth for computer science. Additionally, it holds a seventh-place tie for graduate-level computer science programs.

Research.com also ranks the university’s computer science program tenth nationally, while CSRankings places it at thirteenth. These rankings highlight the university’s strong reputation in producing graduates equipped with essential skills for the evolving tech landscape.

The University of Texas is also making notable advancements in the area of artificial intelligence (AI). In November 2023, the university announced a significant increase in the computing capacity of its Center for Generative AI. This facility, which serves faculty and student researchers, is recognized as one of the most powerful AI research hubs in academia.

Adam Klivans, the director of the UT-led National Science Foundation Institute for Foundations of Machine Learning, expressed enthusiasm about this development, stating, “The scale of the center’s computing cluster will allow us to create solutions to bigger real-world problems that make a difference in people’s lives. It’s exciting to accelerate discovery and to create more opportunities for our researchers to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”

Cost-Effectiveness Rankings

The top ten universities identified by DataCamp for their cost-effectiveness are as follows:

1. University of Washington: $12,777
2. Stanford University: $10,851
