Samuels Library Unveils Exciting July Programs for Youth

Samuels Library in Front Royal has announced a diverse lineup of programs for youth throughout July 2023. The activities aim to engage children of various ages with storytelling, arts and crafts, and interactive experiences that promote learning and creativity.
July Programs for Children and Teens
The month kicks off with the “Color Walk” on July 1 at 15:00 for children aged 6 to 11. Participants will explore stories about colors, create their own artwork, and witness an engaging color mixing experiment. Following this, regular story times are scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays, providing toddlers with a session at 10:15 and preschoolers at 11:00.
On July 8, the library will host a “Bluey Party” for children aged 0 to 6 at 10:30. This event promises stories, snacks, games, dancing, and crafts, making it a fun-filled morning. Later that day, from 15:00, children aged 6 to 11 can attend the “Ancient Egyptian Party,” featuring tales from Ancient Egypt, the chance to create their own papyrus and hieroglyphics, and a lively mummy race.
For toddlers aged 2 to 5, the “Laugh at Ladybugs Toddlers Trails” will take place at Eastham Park on July 11 at 10:00. Younger children can also enjoy “Music & Movement” sessions on Mondays, with timings set for babies at 10:15 and toddlers at 11:15.
Another highlight is the “Advocacy Through Artwork” workshop on July 12 at 14:00. This session, in collaboration with the ARC of Warren County, allows children aged 5 and older to create beautiful collages using natural materials like leaves and flowers. The finished pieces will be displayed, encouraging artistic expression and community involvement.
Engaging Activities and Special Guests
On July 14 at 14:00, families are invited to “Music & Movement Rhythmaya,” a cultural dance and music event featuring influences from India. A unique session titled “Throw a Fit Mix It Up” will take place on July 15 at 15:00, where children aged 6 to 11 will hear stories about managing frustration and anger while making a “fit” to throw.
Local author Arlie Jerome will read his book “Max the Husky” during story times on July 16 and 17 at 10:15 for toddlers and 11:00 for preschoolers. The sessions will include discussions about sled dogs, teamwork, finger plays, and a craft activity.
Families will be captivated by “Rockstar Magic” on July 19 at 14:00, featuring illusions, levitation, and live animals. Additionally, on July 22 at 11:00, “Clay Venture” offers children aged 6 to 11 the chance to learn about clay art from local artist Ms. Arline from Explore Art & Clay, who will guide participants in painting tiles and discussing the firing process.
On July 23 and 24, preschoolers can join the “Read with the Sheriff” sessions at 11:00, offering a unique opportunity to engage with local law enforcement in a friendly setting.
The month continues with “Going Crazy for Gundalows” on July 25 at 14:00 for children aged 7 to 11, where they will meet at Shenandoah River “Andy Guest” State Park to learn about gundalows and create their own for floating down the river.
A special program for teens, “LARP-Teens Connect,” will be held on July 26 at 14:30, introducing participants aged 12 to 18 to the basics of Live Action Role Play using foam weapons and storylines.
Finally, on July 29 at 15:00, children aged 6 to 11 can dive into the world of Ancient Rome with stories, mosaic-making, and games. The month will conclude with “Wildlife Ambassadors” on July 31 at 14:00, where attendees will have the chance to encounter live, non-releasable wild animals such as hawks, owls, falcons, snakes, turtles, and opossums, presented by the Wildlife Center of Virginia.
