Every morning during Homecoming week, the Pella Homecoming Court adds a unique flair to school spirit by reading lunch menus live on KNIA/KRLS. This tradition, which has been embraced by the community for several years, showcases the enthusiasm of local students while providing a daily update for their peers.

The initiative began with fifth-grade students, who have continued to participate as they advance through their educational journey. Many of these young individuals, now in high school, have made notable contributions to Pella High School, demonstrating growth and engagement within the community. According to a local radio station representative, this tradition not only fosters excitement but also strengthens connections between students and the station.

This year, the Class of 2026 homecoming court took the stage to read the lunch menus, a role that has become a rite of passage for students in Pella. Harrison Mullens, a member of the homecoming court, was unable to attend the reading at Jefferson, but his peers carried on the tradition. The recordings of the lunch announcements can be accessed through the following links:

This engaging practice has been a part of the community’s fabric since at least 2014, with an extensive archive of recordings available for those interested in reliving past events. The lunch menu readings not only serve as a fun morning ritual but also exemplify the strong sense of community in Pella. As students transition from fifth grade to high school, they carry with them memories of their participation in this beloved tradition, which continues to resonate with new generations.

The Pella Homecoming Court’s contributions, underscored by their lively menu readings, highlight the importance of involvement in local culture and community activities. By continuing this tradition, the students foster a sense of pride and connection that enriches their high school experience.
