A new leader has been appointed for the Sausalito Marin City School District. Amy Hale, an experienced educator with over 20 years in various roles, has been selected as the principal for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, the district’s TK-8 school. Hale was chosen from a competitive pool of seven candidates and will succeed David Finnane, who left the position on June 30 to join the Mill Valley School District.

The announcement regarding Hale’s salary and official start date will be made during the board meeting scheduled for July 31. During this meeting, the board is also expected to approve her contract, according to district superintendent LaResha Huffman.

Huffman described the selection process as thorough, involving a panel of 14 members who unanimously endorsed Hale as the preferred candidate. “This strong endorsement was a key factor in my decision,” Huffman stated. She highlighted Hale’s “openness, deep engagement in classroom instruction, and her ability to collaborate with teachers to analyze and act on student data” as significant strengths.

Hale expressed her enthusiasm for the role in a letter to the school community, acknowledging the importance of her new position. “I accept this role with humility and excitement, knowing that MLK Academy has much to teach me,” she wrote. Hale was particularly attracted to the school’s “deep commitment to scholarship, mentorship, and, most importantly, kindness.”

Having previously served as the assistant principal at Montgomery High School and as principal at Yulupa Elementary School, Hale brings a wealth of experience in education. Additionally, she has held interim roles, including principal at Grant Elementary School in Petaluma. Her career began as a high school English teacher, and she has also worked in schools across Palo Alto, San Mateo, Pleasanton, and Marin.

Hale emphasized her commitment to fostering a supportive educational environment. “It is an honor to join this dedicated community of students, families, educators, and leaders,” she said. She understands the anticipation and hope that accompany new leadership and is particularly passionate about enhancing literacy, interdisciplinary learning, and equity.

“I believe in project-based learning, culturally responsive teaching, and targeted support for English language learners,” Hale noted. “Above all, I will be a champion for every student, educator, and family on this campus.” Her vision aligns with the district’s mission to create an inclusive and nurturing atmosphere for all students.

As Hale prepares to take on her new responsibilities, the Sausalito Marin City School District community looks forward to her leadership and the positive changes she aims to bring.
