Lehigh University Hosts Webinar on Equity for Multilingual Learners

Lehigh University College of Education is set to host a significant webinar titled Promoting Equity for Multilingual Learners with Disabilities on November 13, 2025, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. EST. This event will engage educators, policymakers, and the general public in critical discussions surrounding the challenges faced by multilingual learners with disabilities.
Insightful Discussion Led by Expert
The webinar will feature Dr. Sara E.N. Kangas, an associate professor and author of the forthcoming book, Promoting Equity for Multilingual Learners with Disabilities (Teachers College Press, 2025). Dr. Kangas plans to highlight the patterned inequities that multilingual learners with disabilities encounter within the education system. By drawing from her extensive research and personal experiences, she aims to provide a framework that empowers teachers, education leaders, and policymakers to become agents of change.
The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Hayley Weddle, an assistant professor of educational foundations at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Weddle’s research primarily focuses on equity in educational policy implementation, making her insights particularly relevant to the topic at hand.
Engagement and Access for All
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with both speakers during a question-and-answer session, fostering a collaborative environment for discussing this pressing issue. Dr. Kangas emphasizes that systemic inequalities in K–12 education disproportionately affect multilingual learners with disabilities, a demographic that is rapidly expanding.
Her book challenges long-standing assumptions regarding educational practices and advocates for collaborative efforts among educators and policymakers to cultivate inclusive and equitable learning environments. Registration for this no-cost webinar is now open and can be completed at https://bit.ly/46S1ULZ.
