Kingsport Library Offers Autumn Crafternoon and Diverse Programs

The Kingsport Public Library is set to host an autumn-themed Crafternoon on October 11, 2023, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This event invites families to participate in crafting activities suitable for various skill levels. As renovations continue at the library’s main downtown location, services are currently being held at 2101 Fort Henry Drive, inside the local mall.

Participants can look forward to a range of engaging events throughout the week. The library has partnered with the American Job Center to offer a free series of introductory classes on Quickbooks, taking place on Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. These classes will run for eight weeks, providing valuable skills for those interested in financial management. For seniors seeking assistance with technology, the library has organized a free one-on-one session titled “Ask a Library Geek.” Scheduled for Wednesday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to noon, this program allows senior citizens to receive personalized help with their phones or tablets. Interested individuals can sign up by contacting the Kingsport Senior Center at 423-392-8400.

Children’s Activities and Teen Programs

The library offers a variety of programs for children. On Mondays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., children aged 6-11 can join the Lego Club, featuring both free play and an optional spooky challenge. Additionally, “Craft with Me” will take place on Saturday, October 11, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., catering to younger children aged 3-5.

Storytime sessions are also available, with several tailored for different age groups. The Lapsit Storytime for infants occurs on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., while the Time for 2’s Storytime is on Thursdays at the same time. Preschool Storytime takes place on Mondays at 10:30 a.m., providing engaging reading experiences for children aged 3 to 5.

For teens in grades 6-12, the library offers “Learning at the Library” sessions, focusing on topics such as history, English, and science. The next session, exploring horror poetry, is scheduled for Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. Additionally, the Teen Art Studio will host a drawing class focused on ink techniques on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m..

Community Engagement and Adult Events

Adults can join in on a Game Night every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where they can enjoy card and board games. Participants are welcome to bring their own games or use those available at the library, fostering a community atmosphere for adults to connect and unwind.

The All Ages Crafternoon is a highlight of the week, offering a family-friendly environment where creativity flourishes. With autumn-themed crafts, there is an activity for everyone, making it a perfect opportunity for families to bond over creative projects.
