Johns Hopkins University (JHU) has secured the No. 16 position for the second consecutive year in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2026. The rankings, released today, evaluate a total of 2,191 institutions across 115 countries and territories, reflecting a comprehensive assessment of global higher education.

In this year’s rankings, JHU distinguished itself by being among only 37 universities to achieve a perfect score of 100 in the “Industry” category. This category assesses factors such as innovation, knowledge transfer, and commercial funding, highlighting JHU’s commitment to bridging academia with real-world applications.

Strong Performance Across Multiple Disciplines

Johns Hopkins also received high rankings in several academic fields. The university placed No. 5 in medical and health education, No. 9 in life sciences, No. 20 in psychology, No. 25 in computer science, and tied for No. 25 in social sciences. These scores underscore JHU’s focus on producing impactful research and fostering high-quality education across a diverse range of disciplines.

Within the context of United States institutions, JHU ranks No. 10 out of 171 schools included in the rankings, maintaining the same position it held last year. This consistent performance demonstrates the university’s sustained excellence in the competitive landscape of higher education.

Global and National Context

The Times Higher Education rankings are widely regarded as a leading indicator of university performance, based on 18 key performance indicators across five categories. Oxford University has claimed the top spot for the 10th consecutive year, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at No. 2. Princeton and Cambridge share the third position, while Stanford and Harvard are tied at fifth.

In addition to the recent global ranking, JHU achieved a ranking of No. 7 in the U.S. News & World Report‘s annual undergraduate rankings in September, marking its place among the top 10 institutions since 2019.
