Johns Hopkins University Eliminates Undergraduate Tuition for Many Families

Students from families with incomes below $100,000 will also receive additional support to cover living expenses and fees, making the university a viable tuition-free option for many families exceeding the median American household income. This groundbreaking change is set to take effect in the spring 2026 semester for current students, while incoming students will be eligible for these benefits starting in the 2026-2027 academic year.
Financial Support and Historical Contributions
This bold initiative is largely made possible due to a substantial $1.8 billion donation from alumnus Michael Bloomberg in 2018, which has allowed the university to enhance its financial aid offerings significantly. By streamlining the financial aid process, current and prospective students will be considered for this generous tuition-free offer through the standard financial aid application channels.
Additionally, students from families earning above $200,000 will still have access to financial aid packages designed to meet their full financial needs. According to university officials, “Most students from households earning $250,000 will continue to qualify for financial aid, along with those with annual incomes exceeding $250,000, especially those with multiple children in college.”
