Freeland Elementary Middle School organized a successful fundraising event known as the Whippet Walk on October 17, 2023. Students participated by collecting donations over the preceding month to support their upcoming field trips and various school activities. The initiative not only aimed to raise funds but also fostered a sense of community and school spirit among the participants.

To kick off the event, students engaged in a warm-up stretch led by fifth-grade teacher Mr. Fox. Following the warm-up, they walked to the nearby Gene Della Croce Memorial Field, where they enjoyed a few moments of fresh air and exercise. The event was designed to promote physical activity while encouraging teamwork and camaraderie among students.

Classes that excelled in fundraising efforts were rewarded with parties, adding an element of friendly competition to the event. The organizers expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success, including the local Freeland street department, teachers, staff, and generous donors. In a statement, they noted, “We hope to do the same in years to come,” indicating plans for future events of this nature.

The Whippet Walk also featured various fun activities, including face painting, which added to the festive atmosphere. Students had the opportunity to bond with their peers and teachers, enhancing the overall sense of community at the school. The event exemplified how educational institutions can successfully combine fundraising with physical activity, fostering both engagement and social interaction.

Overall, the Whippet Walk served as a reminder of the importance of community support in enhancing educational experiences for students. As Freeland Elementary Middle School looks to the future, the success of this event sets a positive precedent for similar initiatives that encourage student involvement and community engagement.
