Dawn Hamilton founded her design firm, DawnElise Interiors, with a vision to transform homes into livable works of art. While initially pursuing a career in art history at Columbia University, Hamilton’s passion for storytelling through design led her to establish her own business after graduating from the Art Institute.

A Philosophy of Livable Luxury

Hamilton’s approach to interior design is characterized by what she describes as “livable luxury.” This concept emphasizes elegance without pretension, combining aesthetic appeal with functional living. For Hamilton, luxury does not equate to excess; rather, it stems from intentional design choices that enhance everyday life.

In her projects, Hamilton skillfully balances sculptural lines with organic textures and neutral palettes accented by bold colors. Light plays a crucial role, carefully orchestrated to create mood and presence. Materials such as natural stone and warm woods ground her interiors in authenticity, while bespoke furnishings add a personal touch.

Hamilton’s work spans diverse settings. In Telluride, she designed a mountain retreat that merges ruggedness with refinement, featuring panoramic views and stone fireplaces. Conversely, a 12,000-square-foot residence in the Florida Keys embraces a coastal modern aesthetic, fusing contemporary technology with an atmosphere of serenity.

Expanding the Vision and Client Relationships

Beyond her bespoke projects, Hamilton has broadened her reach through the DawnElise Interiors Shop on Wayfair. Each carefully curated piece reflects her commitment to comfort, elegance, and functionality, making her vision of “livable luxury” accessible to a wider audience. As her practice expands across regions—from South Florida estates to California beachfronts and elegant residences in the Northeast and Midwest—Hamilton remains dedicated to her core philosophy.

In addition to her design work, Hamilton is revisiting her roots in art history. She now assists clients in curating contemporary art collections, adding depth and narrative to their interiors. “For me, it’s the perfect evolution—merging art and design into one seamless expression of beauty and meaning,” she states.

When discussing her ideal project, Hamilton emphasizes the importance of client relationships over specific locations. She values long-term connections with clients who appreciate craftsmanship and timeless design. These relationships allow her to create environments that reflect their personalities—whether in homes, yachts, or aircraft.

“Over time, as I come to know them deeply, I can create environments across their homes, yachts, and aircraft that remain unmistakably theirs—tailored, timeless, and profoundly personal,” Hamilton explains.

From her beginnings as a curator to her current role as a designer, Dawn Hamilton continues to shape interiors that resonate with beauty and human connection. Her work embodies elegance, comfort, and the enduring art of storytelling, making each space a testament to her vision and dedication to her clients.
