Clemson University has announced the addition of nine new faculty members to the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine, marking a significant step forward in its development. The college, which is preparing to welcome its inaugural class in 2026, continues to strengthen its academic offerings in anticipation of gaining full accreditation.

The new faculty members bring a wealth of expertise and diverse backgrounds to the college, enhancing its capacity to deliver high-quality veterinary education. The hiring process will remain active as the college approaches its target date for student enrollment.

Meet the New Faculty Members

The following individuals have been appointed to various roles within the college:

Leonardo Brito, DVM, PhD, DACT, will serve as the Faculty Lead for the Clinical Skills Unit. His extensive background in veterinary clinical practice is expected to provide valuable insights into hands-on training.

Lisa Sams Ebner, DVM, MS, DACVAA, CVA, takes on the role of Faculty Lead for Foundational Sciences. Her research and clinical experience will contribute to the curriculum that underpins veterinary education.

Callie Fogle, DVM, DAVCS-LA, has been named the Head of Veterinary Services. In this role, Fogle will oversee clinical operations and provide leadership in veterinary care standards.

Jonathan Fogle, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (SAIM), has been appointed as the Acting Department Chair. His dual expertise in clinical practice and academic leadership will guide the department’s strategic direction.

Paul Gordon-Ross, DVM, MS, PhD, will take on the responsibilities of Faculty Lead for Year Four Clinical Training and Director of the 4th Year Curriculum. His focus will be on ensuring that students receive comprehensive clinical training.

Josep Rutllant, DVM, PhD, will contribute to the Anatomy department, bringing specialized knowledge to the study of veterinary anatomy.

Jo Smith, MA, VetMB, PhD, MVetEd, DACVIM (SAIM), has been appointed as the Faculty Lead for Professional Development, focusing on equipping students with essential skills for their future careers.

Hector Zerpa, MV, MSc, PhD, will serve as the Director of Faculty Success, a role critical for enhancing faculty development and support within the college.

Sierra R. Guynn, DVM, PhD, DACVPM, will join the team focusing on Farm Animal Medicine, starting on September 1, 2025. Her role will be pivotal in addressing the needs of farm animal health and welfare.

These strategic appointments are designed to create a robust educational environment that supports the college’s mission of excellence in veterinary medicine. As the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine prepares for its first class, the hiring of new faculty members reflects a commitment to building a strong foundation for future veterinarians.
