Butler University Named Top Midwest Regional University Again
Butler University has once again secured its position as the top regional university in the Midwest, according to the latest rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. This marks the second consecutive year that Butler has earned this distinction, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
In addition to its number one ranking, Butler University was also recognized as the most innovative school among regional universities in the Midwest. President James Danko emphasized the significance of these rankings, stating that they reflect the dedication of the faculty and staff in providing “an education that is both transformative and impactful.” He added, “We take pride in cultivating an environment where students thrive academically, personally, and professionally, preparing them for meaningful lives and careers.”

The methodology employed by U.S. News & World Report for these rankings has largely remained consistent since last year. The evaluation considers up to 17 key measures of academic quality for National Universities and 13 indicators for National Liberal Arts Colleges, Regional Universities, and Regional Colleges. The most significant factor, accounting for 52% of the overall score, is student outcomes. This category evaluates graduation rates, first-year retention, Pell graduation rates, federal loan debt, and earnings five years post-graduation. Data used in these calculations is derived from information reported by the institutions or obtained from third-party sources.
Despite its strong performance, the University of Notre Dame saw a decline in its national ranking, dropping two spots to tie for 20th place with three other universities.
