Angel Reese Celebrates Back-to-School Season for Chicago Students

On Monday, over 300,000 students from Chicago Public Schools returned to classes, with many starting the year on a high note thanks to a special event hosted by Angel Reese, a prominent player for the Chicago Sky. The back-to-school celebration took place at International Sports Chicago on the city’s Northwest Side, bringing together students for a day filled with excitement and community spirit.
The event attracted approximately 2,000 students, who received new Reebok backpacks filled with essential school supplies. In addition to the giveaways, attendees enjoyed live music, food, and, of course, basketball. Reese took the opportunity to inspire the young attendees, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and reminding them that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
Community Efforts Enhance the Back-to-School Experience
In conjunction with Reese’s event, the Chicago Teachers Union organized its third annual Back-to-School Summer Jam on the Near West Side. Dr. Diane Castro, the union’s elementary functional vice president, expressed enthusiasm about giving back to the community. “We are always really excited to give back to the community for our students, our families. We love having them out here,” she stated.
Families at the Summer Jam enjoyed free food and entertainment while preparing their children for the school year ahead. The event featured school supply giveaways and thousands of complimentary books aimed at fostering a sense of motivation and confidence in the students. Teacher Yexx Lajeune emphasized the importance of these initiatives, saying, “We do this so they can have spirit, motivation, and confidence into the new school year.”
Additionally, the Summer Jam provided a free visit to a salon, allowing children to receive fresh haircuts in anticipation of their first day back at school. This combination of support and celebration exemplifies the community’s commitment to ensuring that students start the academic year positively and prepared.
As Chicago students embark on this new school year, the efforts of both Angel Reese and the Chicago Teachers Union serve as poignant reminders of the community’s dedication to its youth. Their initiatives not only supply essential materials but also foster a sense of belonging and encouragement, setting the stage for a successful year ahead.
