Hyperion Humboldt Realty recently marked its one-year anniversary, reflecting on a journey that blends personal pride with community engagement. Owner Annalise von Borstel faces the complex emotions of entrepreneurship, navigating the highs of business success alongside the uncertainties of the economic landscape.

The company has thrived in a competitive market, partly due to von Borstel’s approach to growth, which emphasizes relationship building and community involvement. “Owning a business has revealed a range of complex emotions I didn’t expect,” she shared. “Pride mixed with vulnerability. Hyperion is my creation, but it has a life of its own beyond my control.”

Embracing Community Connections

As von Borstel contemplates the future, she considers strategic expansion by adding agents to her team. This goal, however, is approached with caution. “Like a redwood in the forest, if a young tree grows too tall before its roots are firmly established, it becomes vulnerable,” she explained. In a small company, each new addition can significantly impact resources and focus.

To sustain healthy growth, von Borstel has engaged with the community through various initiatives, including volunteering with Rotary, attending Chamber mixers, and sponsoring local events. “These opportunities are invaluable,” she noted. “I enjoy meeting my community face-to-face, and I want to grow not just my client base but also an entity larger than myself.”

Recently, von Borstel received an invitation to join a panel on community engagement at the inaugural Redwood Coast Women’s Conference, scheduled for September 25, 2023. This conference serves as a platform for women leaders to connect and support one another, embodying the spirit of empowerment that defines Humboldt.

Looking Ahead with Resilience

Participation in such events reinforces von Borstel’s commitment to fostering authentic relationships. “The invitation to speak at the Women’s Conference, and the connections I’ve fostered, have confirmed that the roots Hyperion has established over the past year are intricate and resilient,” she remarked.

The conference represents a unique opportunity, allowing local leaders to prioritize genuine engagement over digital marketing tactics. “Here, collaboration takes precedence,” von Borstel said. “I’m proud to stand with other women leaders in celebrating and strengthening the bond that makes Humboldt truly exceptional.”

As Hyperion Humboldt Realty looks to the future, von Borstel emphasizes the importance of staying connected with the community. “Whatever growth looks like to you, I encourage maintaining active engagement with your community,” she advised. “It will support your organization organically through transitions and new opportunities.”

With a mission to partner with clients to achieve their real estate and financial goals while fostering economic growth in Humboldt, Hyperion Humboldt Realty is poised for the next phase of development. As von Borstel prepares for the challenges ahead, her focus remains on sustainable, authentic growth that reflects the values of the community she serves.
