Dana Point Turkey Trot Celebrates 48th Year with 12,000 Runners
The Dana Point Turkey Trot celebrated its 48th annual event with a remarkable turnout of approximately 12,000 runners on Thursday morning, November 27, 2025. This year’s race, which featured a 10K, 5K, and a 1-mile kids’ Gobble Wobble, once again sold out, solidifying its status as a cherished holiday tradition in Orange County.
A Scenic Course and Competitive Spirit
The Turkey Trot is renowned for its picturesque route that winds through the harbor and Doheny State Beach, offering participants stunning views of the coastline. Races began and ended at the entrance of the harbor, attracting both serious athletes and families looking to enjoy the festive spirit.
Among the standout performances, Sydney Gidabuday clinched victory in the 10K with an impressive time of 29:44, while Makenna Myler was the first female finisher, completing the race in 32:12. The event not only showcased athletic prowess but also encouraged a lively atmosphere, with spectators cheering on their friends and family members.
Costumes added an extra layer of excitement, as many participants donned festive outfits. Awards were presented for the best costumes in various categories, including children, adults, and groups, contributing to the fun and camaraderie of the event.
Community Impact and Support for Local Causes
Over the years, the Dana Point Turkey Trot has raised more than $500,000 for local nonprofit organizations. This year, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Dana Point Historical Society, Dana Point Women’s Club, and YMCA of Orange County. In a notable initiative, new pajamas for foster children were collected for the club’s Project Foster, which has provided over 3,100 rolling duffel bags to foster youth in Orange County since 2023.
The duffel bags include essential clothing, personal care items, and comfort items such as handmade pillowcases and toys, aiming to support vulnerable children. Pajamas and toiletries will continue to be accepted, with drop-off points located at the women’s clubhouse on San Juan Avenue and the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce on Pacific Coast Highway.
The Dana Point Turkey Trot not only fosters community spirit through its races but also emphasizes the importance of giving back, making it a significant event for both participants and the local community.
