Oscar Lorenzzi, a renowned chef with a passion for South American cuisine, is set to introduce a new culinary experience to the West Village, New York. His latest venture, Nuyores, will occupy a 2,100-square-foot space at 154 West 13th Street, previously home to Il Totano. Lorenzzi describes the restaurant as a tribute to New York City, drawing inspiration from its vibrant culture and diverse culinary landscape.

“It’s a show of my love for New York,” Lorenzzi shared with What Now New York. “That’s where the name Nuyores comes from — it’s the South American slang for New York that we use.” Through Nuyores, Lorenzzi aims to showcase the rich flavors and unique dishes of Peruvian cuisine, offering a menu that promises to tantalize the taste buds of New Yorkers.

A Taste of Peru in the Heart of New York

At Nuyores, patrons can expect an array of Peruvian-inspired dishes, including ceviche, ribeye steak with Argentinian beef, and a creative twist on anticuchos, replacing the traditional beef heart skewers with lamb ribs. The menu will focus on small plates, each priced under $30, encouraging diners to explore a variety of flavors. Additionally, large-format dishes will be available for sharing, promoting a communal dining experience.

Lorenzzi’s passion for wine will also play a significant role at Nuyores, with plans for a deep wine cellar offering an extensive selection to complement the menu. Lorenzzi is no stranger to the West Village either, having previously served as the executive chef at the Waverly Inn for several years. His return to the neighborhood is met with enthusiasm, as he seeks to introduce a fresh and eclectic culinary offering.

“Coming back to the West Village, I love the area,” Lorenzzi expressed. “I think the area lacks a bit of eclectic cuisine, so they need a little bit of South American and Peruvian flavor in it.”
