Newcastle Boosts Bid for Sesko as Manchester United Eyes Striker

Newcastle United has increased their bid for striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig to a total of £69.7 million (€80 million). This updated offer, which includes add-ons, comes after their initial proposal of £65.3 million plus £4.36 million in bonuses was submitted. The negotiations have been ongoing, and reports from Sky in Germany indicate that Newcastle’s management is keen to secure the young forward.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is also preparing to make a formal offer for Sesko. The club has engaged in discussions with Leipzig regarding their financial capacity to make a competitive bid. Sources indicate that Sesko is open to both Newcastle and United, but he may be leaning towards joining United, provided they can finalize an agreement.
Complications in the Transfer Market
The pursuit of Sesko complicates the future of Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United, as the club is reportedly receptive to offers for the striker. Hojlund has participated in two of United’s pre-season matches and scored in a recent victory over Bournemouth. Despite his contributions, the potential addition of another striker could limit his playing time.
RB Leipzig has also expressed interest in Hojlund, exploring the possibility of a loan deal as part of any transaction involving Sesko. This could present a scenario where both players join the Bundesliga club, although Hojlund’s status remains uncertain.
Newcastle’s Transfer Challenges
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has stated that the club is determined to pursue only the best transfer targets during a challenging window. Recently, they have faced setbacks, including the departure of striker Callum Wilson to West Ham and lost opportunities for several other targets such as Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
In addition to Sesko, Newcastle is interested in Yoane Wissa from Brentford, who has been absent from his club’s recent matches as he seeks a transfer. Newcastle’s previous bid of £25 million for Wissa was rejected, but the player is reportedly keen on moving to St. James’ Park.
Howe emphasized the club’s commitment to quality over quantity in their recruitment strategy. “We’re looking for the best players that we can get. Whatever our target position is, we’re looking for the best,” he explained. The head coach acknowledged the difficulties faced this summer but remains optimistic about securing valuable signings before the transfer window closes.
As the transfer saga unfolds, both Newcastle and Manchester United are poised to make significant moves in the market, with the potential to reshape their squads for the upcoming season.
