Actors Dave Franco and Alison Brie recently shared memories of their unconventional wedding, reflecting on the intimate ceremony they held in 2017. As they prepare for the release of their new film, “Together,” which debuted as the top seller at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the couple looked back at their unique journey, including their heartfelt proposal and the unforgettable celebration that followed.

From Proposal to Party

The couple’s engagement took place at Big Sur, a location that holds special meaning for them. Franco, who didn’t have a traditional engagement ring ready, opted for a placeholder he found at an antique store. “I figured I should have something to put on her finger,” he explained. Franco had previously kept a silver mask from their first meeting at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, where he had written his phone number on it. This sentimental item became part of his proposal.

Brie recalled the moment vividly: “He calls me out onto the patio. I turn around and Dave’s on one knee in a Zorro mask, holding a weird box with an old rock in it. I had no idea what was going on.” Franco described the proposal as a mix of humor and sincerity, as he struggled to explain the significance of the mask while Brie questioned the unusual circumstances. Ultimately, she agreed to marry him, leading to a simple yet meaningful ceremony.

An Intimate Ceremony and Memorable Reception

Their wedding was held at home on their balcony with just their parents and siblings in attendance. Following the ceremony, they hosted a lively celebration at Pizzeria Mozza, a popular restaurant in Los Angeles owned by chef Nancy Silverton. The couple invited around 60 friends to join in the festivities.

Despite the carefully curated nature of their guest list, a surprise plus-one made an unexpected appearance. “One of your friends who had RSVP’d without a plus one did bring a plus one,” Brie noted, laughing at the last-minute change. The couple had ensured the celebration would be relaxed and enjoyable, even providing guests with weed pens as party favors, which led to a light-hearted atmosphere and plenty of leftover pizzas to take home.

Reflecting on their day, Franco and Brie expressed that they had approached the wedding without the traditional pressures often associated with such events. “We were never big into weddings. This was not a super important thing to us,” Franco stated. “At the end of the day, we did it exactly how we wanted. In a cheesy way, that ended up being one of the best days of our lives.”

As they embark on new creative projects, including separate scripts—Franco’s thriller and Brie’s horror-comedy—they continue to support each other in their professional endeavors. “We’ll be producers on one another’s projects,” Franco said, ensuring a collaborative spirit remains central to their partnership.

“Together” is currently in theaters nationwide, showcasing the couple’s ability to blend their personal and professional lives seamlessly, much to the delight of their fans.
