South Korean soccer star Son Heung-min has confirmed he will leave Tottenham Hotspur before the start of the upcoming Premier League season. This announcement marks the end of a decade-long tenure with the North London club, during which Son established himself as one of the most influential players in the league. Reports indicate that a potential move to Major League Soccer in the United States is on the horizon for the 33-year-old forward.

Speaking to reporters in Seoul prior to a preseason friendly against Newcastle United, Son stated, “Before we start the press conference, I wanted to say I have decided to leave the club this summer. Respectfully, the club is helping me with this decision.” He described this choice as “the most difficult decision I have made in my career,” emphasizing the need for a new environment to continue his development. “I need a little bit of change – 10 years is a long time,” he added.

Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has since become a standout player, scoring 173 goals in 454 matches. He formed a formidable partnership with England legend Harry Kane, eventually succeeding him as club captain. In the 2021-22 season, he achieved the honor of being joint top scorer in the Premier League, alongside Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, each netting 23 goals.

In May, Son celebrated a significant achievement, lifting the Europa League trophy after Tottenham triumphed over Manchester United in the final. His contributions to the sport have made him an iconic figure in South Korea, where he has scored 51 goals in 134 matches for the national team, solidifying his status as the country’s most prominent athlete.

New Spurs coach Thomas Frank praised Son during the press conference, calling him “a true Spurs legend in every aspect, one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League.” His departure will undoubtedly leave a significant void in the team, as he has been a critical part of their successes over the years.

As fans and analysts await further developments regarding Son’s next move, his legacy at Tottenham remains firmly established. The transition marks a new chapter not only for the player but also for the club, which will now look to build a future without one of its brightest stars.
