BREAKING: An urgent situation unfolded in Black Forest, Colorado, this morning as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fired shots at a vehicle during a detention operation. The incident occurred around 9:00 AM local time, approximately 30 minutes north of Colorado Springs.

According to ICE officials, the suspects allegedly attempted to run over agents with their vehicle. In response to this violent action, an agent discharged three shots into the fleeing vehicle to protect personnel on the scene. “As a result of their violent actions, to protect the officers and agents onsite, an officer fired three shots into the vehicle,” an ICE spokesperson stated.

No injuries have been reported at this time, but law enforcement is actively searching for the two suspects who fled the scene and abandoned their vehicle. A significant law enforcement presence has been established in the area, including armored vehicles, helicopters, drones, and personnel from the FBI and El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses observed a truck being towed from a ditch by law enforcement, though it remains unclear if this was the vehicle involved in the shooting. Authorities confirmed that Burgess Road near the intersection with Green Tree was closed for approximately five hours as agents conducted a thorough search of the nearby fields and private properties.

Earlier in the day, a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents in the vicinity but was lifted by Thursday evening. As of now, it is uncertain if any arrests have been made related to this incident.

In response to the unfolding events, pro-immigrant activists gathered at a law enforcement staging area, seeking information about the suspects. “We know that ICE is going to put up their own presentation on this, and the feds are going to put up their own presentation on this,” stated Genevieve Richard with the Colorado Springs Alliance Against Racism and Political Repression. “We view anything they say with a great deal of skepticism, so we’re just trying to find out all we can.”

ICE officials have cited a troubling increase in assaults against their agents, attributing this rise to “lies and violent rhetoric.” The situation continues to develop, and further updates are anticipated as law enforcement intensifies its search for the suspects.

Stay tuned for more updates on this breaking story as it unfolds.
