UPDATE: The 132nd annual Allen County Fair wrapped up on August 20, 2023, delivering an exciting weekend filled with fun, games, and impressive animal exhibits at Iola’s Riverside Park. The event concluded with the highly anticipated 4-H and FFA Livestock Auction, where competitive bids reached an impressive $6,750 for the grand champion steer, showcased by Kyser Nemecek.

The fair, which attracted visitors from across the region, featured a variety of activities, including animal showcases, live performances, and educational demonstrations. Notable moments included a captivating performance by champion mandolin player John Depew, who entertained fairgoers on Friday and Saturday with his musical talents.

In addition to the livestock auction, young exhibitors like Shelby Sprague and Rowan Grisier proudly presented their goats, demonstrating the dedication and hard work of the 4-H community. The fair’s atmosphere buzzed with excitement as families gathered to celebrate agriculture and local culture.

Nathan Jenkins, an artisan from Bodging Bigfoot LLC, showcased traditional crafts such as heritage basketmaking and spoon carving, immersing attendees in the rich history of Appalachian culture. His demonstrations captivated audiences, adding a unique cultural touch to the fair.
