Uniontown Mourns Loss of Educator Roy P. Fischer, 79, Passes Away

BREAKING NEWS: Roy P. Fischer, a beloved educator and community leader from Uniontown, PA, has passed away at the age of 79. Fischer died on July 24, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, marking a significant loss for the community he served for decades.
Fischer was a dedicated member of the Third Presbyterian Church and actively contributed to local education as a teacher in the Laurel Highlands School District. He was known for his unwavering faith in Jesus and commitment to nurturing young minds. His passing comes as a shock to those who knew him, and many are mourning the impact he had on their lives.
Born on July 4, 1946, in Uniontown, PA, Roy was the son of the late Roy O. Fischer and Virginia Friend Fischer. He was a proud graduate of South Union High School (1964) and held a teaching degree from California University. Fischer furthered his education with post-graduate studies at Penn State University and West Virginia University.
Fischer’s community involvement extended beyond the classroom. He served as the treasurer for the Fayette School Employees Credit Union and was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for Troop 608 at Third Presbyterian Church. He also founded the Laurel Highlands Jumonville Outdoor School, which has been a cornerstone for youth development in the region.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Reitz Fischer, and five children: David (Melissa), Donald (Sarah), Matthew (Ashley), Laura Cooper (Matthew), and Holly Stewart (James). His legacy continues through his numerous grandchildren: Carrigan, Greyson, Adelaide, Benjamin, Caleb, Moriah, Elijah, Annabelle, James, and Karis.
Visitation for family and friends will take place at the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC. on Sunday, July 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The service will continue on July 28 at Abundant Life Church from 10 to 11 a.m., led by Pastor Garrett Howard and Pastor Mac Reed. Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
