UPDATE: Texas’ civilian labor force has reached a historic milestone, now standing at 15,850,100, following the addition of 10,800 workers in just one month. This achievement marks 60 out of 62 months of continuous growth, highlighting the state’s robust economic environment.

In the past year alone, Texas has welcomed 237,800 new members to its civilian labor force, significantly contributing to an annual nonfarm job growth rate of 1.4 percent, which surpasses the national average by 0.3 percentage points. As of now, the state boasts a total of 14,329,200 nonfarm jobs, although a slight decrease of 1,900 jobs was noted in June.

Texas also recorded a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.0 percent, reflecting a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month. “The increase in the civilian labor force and the drop in unemployment rate highlight continued strength in the Texas economy,” stated TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel.

The largest gains were seen in the Private Education and Health Services sector, which added 6,900 jobs in June. Other sectors, such as Leisure and Hospitality, added 3,000 jobs, while Information saw an increase of 1,000. The Construction industry also rose by 2.4 percent over the year, outperforming the national growth rate by 0.9 percentage points.

“These figures demonstrate that as Texas thrives, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is dedicated to empowering working Texans to share in that success,” commented TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III. The TWC is actively providing tools for job seekers and employers to maximize opportunities throughout the state.

Among Texas Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), Midland recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 3.0 percent, followed closely by Amarillo and San Angelo at 3.1 percent. “TWC supports a business-friendly environment that attracts employers to Texas, creates new career paths, and contributes to a more prosperous workforce,” remarked TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza.

The employment estimates released by the TWC are produced in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. These estimates are subject to revision, and for detailed data, visit TexasLMI.com.
