Barbra Streisand shared candid reflections on her initial encounter with actor James Brolin, celebrating 25 years of their relationship. During an appearance on the UK morning chat show Lorraine, Streisand described how her expectations clashed with reality when they first met. Today, as Brolin turns 85 years old, the singer recalled her surprise at the man who greeted her, noting, “I walk in, and I think I’m gonna meet this guy who looks like he was in Hotel—his television series.”
Streisand humorously reflected on her initial confusion, saying, “I look across the room and someone’s waving to me, but I’m thinking, ‘Who the hell is that?'” She recounted her boldness during their first meeting, stating, “Being much more outspoken now and not afraid to be outspoken, I put my hands on his hair and I say: ‘Who f—— up your hair?'” To her relief, Brolin appreciated her honesty. “Instead of him being put off, he loved it!” she exclaimed, highlighting how their relationship began with openness.
As she discussed these personal anecdotes, Streisand promoted her autobiography, My Name Is Barbra, an extensive chronicle of her life and career that spans over 900 pages. The book includes a 48-hour audio version narrated by her. While it touches on relationships with other notable figures such as Andre Agassi and Don Johnson, Brolin has not yet fully engaged with the memoir. “He hasn’t even read my book through,” she admitted, acknowledging his support but noting the daunting length of the text. “I would read him passages so he was encouraged, but he hasn’t read it because it’s so big.”
Celebrating 25 Years Together
Streisand and Brolin marked their 25th wedding anniversary in July 2022, tying the knot two years after their first meeting. Their wedding took place in the backyard of Streisand’s home in Malibu and featured a star-studded guest list that included John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Quincy Jones, and Sydney Pollack.
During the wedding celebration, Brolin expressed his deep affection for Streisand in a heartfelt speech. “I can’t tell you how lucky I am that this would happen to me so late in life,” he said, conveying his gratitude to the guests. “Every night is a new adventure. Sleeping is a waste of time. I can’t wait to see her again in the morning,” he added, illustrating the couple’s genuine connection.
