Philadelphia is gearing up for an electrifying New Year’s Eve celebration as it welcomes the year 2025. The festivities will feature a stunning display of fireworks along the Delaware River, a groundbreaking outdoor concert headlined by hip-hop legend LL Cool J, and significant transit service changes. Tens of thousands of revelers are expected to gather in Center City for this vibrant celebration.

The Visit PA New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront will dazzle attendees with two spectacular shows on the night of December 31. The first show is set for 18:00 and the grand finale at midnight. Residents and visitors can enjoy the fireworks from Penn’s Landing and other nearby waterfront locations. City officials are advising against driving due to anticipated heavy traffic congestion.

To facilitate access to the waterfront, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) encourages the use of public transport. The Market-Frankford Line offers service to 2nd Street Station, while several bus routes, including 5, 12, 17, 21, 25, 33, and 42, will also provide connections to the festivities.

Concert and Transit Adjustments

Adding to the excitement, Philadelphia will host its inaugural outdoor New Year’s Eve concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The concert will feature LL Cool J, with gates opening at 18:00 and the performance beginning at 20:00. The lineup will also include DJ Jazzy Jeff, Adam Blackstone, Dorothy, and Technician The DJ, promising an energetic evening of entertainment.

In preparation for the large crowds, SEPTA will implement modified service schedules for New Year’s Eve. Regional Rail trains will operate on a weekday schedule with special late-night service on several lines, including Chestnut Hill East, Fox Chase, and Trenton. All Metro lines will also run on a weekday schedule, while additional trains will be added to the Broad Street Line and Market-Frankford Line before and after the fireworks display.

For those relying on bus services, select routes will follow a modified weekday schedule, with all other routes running at weekday service levels, excluding school trips. Riders are encouraged to consult the downloadable schedules available at septa.org for exact departure times and details regarding fare zones and accessibility.

Transit adjustments will extend into the early hours of January 1, as preparations for the annual Mummers Parade commence. Starting at 08:15, multiple bus routes will be detoured due to street closures in the area. SEPTA officials recommend checking the Alerts and Detours page for the latest routing information.

On January 1, Regional Rail, Metro, and bus services will operate on a Sunday schedule, with Bus Route 204 not in service.

With fireworks lighting up the night sky, an outdoor concert featuring a hip-hop icon, and extensive transit adjustments, Philadelphia is set for one of its most ambitious and vibrant New Year’s Eve celebrations in years.
