UPDATE: In a shocking revelation, actor Chevy Chase opened up about his life-threatening heart scare, declaring he has “basically come back from the dead.” The 82-year-old star details his harrowing experience in the upcoming documentary, I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not, set to premiere on January 1 on CNN.

Chase’s health crisis began in 2021 when he was hospitalized for five weeks due to a severe heart issue. His daughter, Caley Chase, shared a gripping account of the ordeal, revealing, “Something was wrong, and he couldn’t explain to me what was wrong. So, we go to the ER. His heart stops.” Chase’s wife, Jayni Chase, added, “During those years he was drinking, he got cardiomyopathy; when the heart muscles get weaker, and they can’t pump as much blood out with each beat.”

In a shocking twist, his longtime friend Peter Aaron revealed that doctors placed Chase into a medically induced coma for eight days to stabilize his condition. The family was warned to “prepare yourselves for the worst,” with doctors stating, “We might not get him back.”

Reflecting on his recovery, Chase stated, “These are my first few days home. I can only say how happy I am to now be back with my family. I’m feeling good.” Despite his past struggles with alcohol cardiomyopathy, Chase emphasized, “Heart failure is what it is,” but reassured fans that he is “fine now.”

Chase, known for his iconic role in National Lampoon’s Vacation and as one of the original cast members of Saturday Night Live, expressed disappointment at being excluded from the show’s recent 50th-anniversary celebration. “It was kind of upsetting, actually,” he said, revealing he had hoped to join fellow cast members on stage.

As new details emerge from this documentary, fans and followers are eager to witness Chase’s journey through such a challenging time. The documentary promises to provide an intimate look at the actor’s struggles, triumphs, and enduring spirit.

Stay tuned for the documentary’s premiere on January 1, and prepare to be inspired by how one of Hollywood’s beloved figures faced his darkest moments.
