UPDATE: The Lowell Police Department’s 11th annual holiday toy drive has just set a record, collecting an astonishing 1,500 toys this season. This remarkable achievement marks the largest donation haul in the event’s history, showcasing the incredible generosity of the Lowell community.

Residents, local businesses, and organizations united to contribute a diverse range of new, unwrapped gifts, including dolls, bicycles, board games, clothing, and more. The outpouring of support highlights the spirit of giving that defines the holiday season in Lowell.

Lowell Public Schools social workers are actively involved in distributing these toys to children and families throughout the city, ensuring that the gifts reach those in need. “Our annual toy drive is a bright spot for the department each holiday season,” said Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon. He added, “This is our department’s opportunity to give back to the community we serve, and the generosity of our officers and community partners showed through in a big way this year.”

The success of this year’s drive was bolstered by numerous community partners, including the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, the Lowell Police Patrolman’s Union, and the Lowell Police Superior Officers Union. Other notable contributors included PAL of Massachusetts, the Officer Sean Collier Memorial Fund, Friends of Shana of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Friends of Tyler Park, the Lowell High School National Honor Society, the Lowell High School Hockey Team, and Pridestar Trinity EMS.

Additionally, the Lowell Regional Transit Authority played a significant role by collecting a substantial number of toys, thanks to the efforts of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1578 and the LRTA Management Team. This extensive collaboration showcases the commitment of the entire community to make the holidays brighter for children in Lowell.

As the drive wraps up, officials express heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed. The impact of this initiative is profound, as it brings joy and hope to countless families during the holiday season.
