URGENT UPDATE: The Corning Museum will open its doors for local history enthusiasts on Monday and Tuesday, December 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a fantastic opportunity for families looking for engaging activities during the holiday break.

Visitors can explore the museum through a self-guided tour at no cost; while admission is free, donations are greatly appreciated. The museum is located at 1110 Solano St., Corning, sharing a building with the Corning Chamber of Commerce.

The Corning Museum showcases an impressive array of artifacts that highlight the rich history and culture of Corning and Tehama County. Notable exhibits include clothing, tools, and photographs from the city’s early days. A special military display honors local veterans and heroes, making this a meaningful visit for the community.

In addition, the museum features yearbooks from Corning Union High School dating back to 1919. Visitors are invited to browse these historical documents and report any missing years, with those who can contribute encouraged to donate to the collection.

“For any history questions I can’t answer, I refer people to our museum president and former mayor, Gary Strack,” said Marie Brayman, Chamber Administrator. “He’s a fantastic resource.”

The museum typically operates on a schedule aligned with the Chamber office, open from Tuesdays to Fridays during non-holiday periods. Although the museum and chamber are housed together, they function as separate nonprofit organizations.

Don’t miss this chance to delve into the history of Corning! The museum can be reached at 530-824-5622 for any inquiries, while the Chamber of Commerce is available at 530-824-5550 or via email at [email protected].

With the holiday season in full swing, this is an ideal time for families to connect with their local heritage. Share this news with friends and family, and plan your visit to the Corning Museum this coming Monday and Tuesday!
