Joseph Garrity Promoted to Chief Strategy Officer at MORPC
URGENT UPDATE: The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has just announced a significant leadership change as Joseph Garrity steps up to become the organization’s new Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Director of External Relations, effective January 1, 2026. This pivotal promotion comes at a crucial time for Central Ohio, as Garrity aims to enhance regional collaboration and strategic initiatives.
William Murdock, MORPC’s Executive Director, praised Garrity’s contributions, stating, “Joe is a key part of MORPC’s success—from driving strategic initiatives and forging strong relationships with local communities across Central Ohio to leading major policy efforts.” Murdock emphasized that Garrity’s expanded role will be vital in advancing the organization’s strategic direction and strengthening operational capabilities.
In his new position, Garrity, aged 40, will take on additional responsibilities, focusing on leadership initiatives that support internal operations while overseeing a comprehensive portfolio that includes public policy, regional events, membership services, and community relations. His department will now be rebranded as External Relations, aligning strategy, partnerships, and engagement efforts.
Garrity’s impressive track record spans 15 years in public service, and he has been with MORPC since 2015. He has risen through the ranks, previously serving as the Senior Director of Government Affairs and Community Relations since 2022. His efforts have been instrumental in driving grant strategies and securing regional investments, positioning Central Ohio to compete effectively for both state and federal resources.
“I’m honored by the trust placed in me and excited to step into this leadership role at an important moment for Central Ohio,” Garrity said. He highlighted the importance of MORPC’s role as a regional convener, stating, “I look forward to serving and working closely with our local government members, private sector partners, and staff to turn strategy into action.”
In addition to his new responsibilities, Garrity is involved with the ADAMH Board of Franklin County and serves as vice chair of the Columbus International Visitors Council. His recognition as a 2022 40 Under 40 honoree by Columbus Business First underscores his commitment and influence in the community.
