Community Remembers Steven Andrew Kovacs After Courageous Battle
Steven Andrew Kovacs, aged 73, passed away on December 11, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He spent his final moments surrounded by family and loved ones, reflecting a life dedicated to both his profession and personal passions.
Mr. Kovacs built a successful career in sales and education at Dakota Tech, where he inspired many students. His love for music was evident throughout his life, beginning in his childhood home and extending into his role as a member of the White Bear Lake High School choir. He actively participated in liturgical music and led several bands, including The Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and the JS Trio.
Passions and Legacy
A man of many interests, Steve was not only passionate about music but also enjoyed woodworking and sports, particularly golf. He cherished the time spent with his wife, Deb Kovacs, at their lake home, where they created lasting memories and shared their love for the outdoors.
He is remembered fondly by his family, including his sons, Andrew and Patrick Kovacs (Megan), and his grandchildren, Casey and Dylan. He is also survived by his sisters, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, and Jody Jarvis, as well as his brother, John Kovacs. Mr. Kovacs was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kovacs.
Special recognition is given to Jody Jarvis, who provided loving assistance to Deb during Steve’s home hospice care, ensuring he was comfortable in his final days.
Celebration of Life
A Celebration of Steve’s life is scheduled for January 6, 2026, at 2 p.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior. The ceremony will take place at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, located at 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley, MN 55124. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor Steve’s memory and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to a charity of your choice or to St. Scholastica Convent (www.sbm.osb.org). The community is invited to share in the remembrance of a man who touched many lives through his music, teaching, and love for family.
