CNY Diaper Bank Launches Urgent Holiday Campaign to Help Families
URGENT UPDATE: The CNY Diaper Bank is urgently calling on the community to support local families this holiday season by donating to provide essential diapers to those in need. As economic hardships rise, this initiative aims to bring comfort and joy to families struggling to meet their most basic needs.
Residents of Liverpool, N.Y., local organizations, and businesses are encouraged to make monetary contributions to the CNY Diaper Bank. Donations can be made securely online at cnydiaperbank.org/holidaymatch2025. To amplify the impact, the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation has announced a matching grant program, allowing donations made through January 1, 2026, to double up to a total of $5,000. Every dollar donated translates to a day’s supply of diapers for a local baby.
“Nearly half of families with young children experience diaper need,” stated Michela Hugo, Founder of the CNY Diaper Bank. “When so many families cannot afford their basic necessities, it highlights a critical issue that demands change.”
The issue of diaper need is exacerbated by low wages and soaring costs, forcing parents into impossible choices. “The CNY Diaper Bank exists to support families now while advocating for policies that ensure no parent ever has to choose between diapers and dinner,” Hugo added.
Diapers, although essential for infants, are not covered by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Women, Infants, and Children benefits. The monthly cost for an adequate supply can reach $100 per child, making them an unaffordable expense for many families.
“Community members can make a significant difference this holiday season by donating to help us provide diapers and prevent diaper need,” emphasized Hugo.
The CNY Diaper Bank, the largest of its kind in New York State, partners with various agencies to distribute an average of 200,000 diapers monthly to 4,000 local babies and toddlers. Since its inception in May 2016, the organization has successfully distributed over 11 million diapers to families in need.
