Cardinals’ Bilal Nichols Questionable for Rams Clash Due to Injury
The Arizona Cardinals face a challenging matchup against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14, with veteran defensive lineman Bilal Nichols listed as questionable due to a knee injury. Nichols, who has endured a difficult recovery from a neck injury that sidelined him for nearly a year, has participated in only nine games since joining the Cardinals under a three-year, $21 million contract.
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon acknowledged Nichols’ impact, stating, “He’s a good football player. He can play a couple of different hats for us. Good to have him back out there today.” Gannon emphasized the player’s energy and performance style, which aligns with the team’s expectations. The Cardinals, who currently stand at 3-9 this season, have struggled with injuries across both offense and defense.
As the Cardinals entered the game trailing 24-10 at halftime, Gannon underscored the difficulty of containing the Rams’ high-powered offense. “I think it starts with really the run game,” he explained. “They’ve got a good O-line and a really good scheme. Sean McVay, the Rams’ head coach, has adapted this year and is using his players effectively. They’ve got good backs. From there, you get antsy to stop the run, and then he throws the ball over your head.”
The Rams, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, have been formidable offensively. Stafford completed 14 of 18 passing attempts for 197 yards and one touchdown during the first half. Gannon highlighted the offensive threats posed by receivers Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. He praised Adams, noting, “Great players win, and that’s what he’s shown over the course of his career.” Gannon remarked on Adams’ impressive performance this season, suggesting he has “kind of found the fountain of youth.”
Adams’ skills, combined with Nacua’s route-running and contested catch abilities, present a significant challenge for the Cardinals’ defense. Gannon acknowledged the formidable nature of the Rams’ offensive crew, stating, “This is a good damn crew.”
As the game progresses, the Cardinals will need to adapt quickly to counter the Rams’ strategies. With Nichols’ status uncertain, the team must strategize effectively to limit the damage from the Rams’ adept offense and improve their standing this season.
