Fire at Goa Nightclub Claims 25 Lives, Investigation Underway

Emergency responders were able to extinguish the fire, but the chaos led to many club-goers rushing toward the kitchen below, trapping both patrons and staff. Six individuals sustained injuries but are currently in stable condition.

Reports indicate that approximately 100 people were present on the dance floor when the fire broke out. The nightclub’s narrow entry and exit points significantly hampered firefighting efforts, with fire brigades forced to park their tankers about 400 meters from the scene. Local officials noted that this restricted access delayed crucial emergency response.
The nightclub had previously faced scrutiny regarding its safety compliance. A local village council official, Roshan Redkar, revealed that authorities had issued a demolition notice for the club due to the absence of a construction permit from the government. However, this order was later rolled back by higher officials.
In light of the tragedy, the state government has initiated an inquiry to ascertain the fire’s precise cause and whether fire safety regulations and building codes were adhered to.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on social media, calling the incident “deeply saddening” and confirming that he spoke with Chief Minister Sawant regarding the situation. He assured that the state government is providing all possible assistance to those affected and extending condolences to the victims’ families.
