UPDATE: Colorado has officially hired Brennan Marion as its new offensive coordinator, announcing the move earlier today. Marion, known for his innovative and fast-paced “Go-Go” offense, steps in to replace Pat Shurmur, who departed following a disappointing 3-9 season.

This urgent change comes as Colorado aims to revitalize its struggling offense, which ranked second-to-last in the Big 12 in both points, averaging just 20.9, and rushing yards at 125.6 per game last season. Marion will work closely with highly-touted quarterback Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis, who is expected to lead a more dynamic attack this upcoming season.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders expressed enthusiasm about the new hire, stating, “We brought in a man that has shown he’s creative, innovative, knowledgeable, smart, and understands today’s players.” Marion’s track record includes a successful stint as head coach at Sacramento State, where he led the Hornets to a 7-5 record and an impressive average of nearly 34 points and 425.6 yards per game.

Marion’s “Go-Go” system emphasizes a high tempo and creative formations, aiming to maximize offensive opportunities. He previously helped UNLV achieve a program-record of scoring 40 or more points in six games during his tenure, and he is known for his unique approach, even wearing a chain that reads “Go-Go.”

Prior to his time at Sacramento State, Marion served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at UNLV, leading the Rebels to two bowl games by implementing a highly effective offense. His experience also includes roles at Texas, where he mentored standout wide receiver Xavier Worthy, and at Pittsburgh, where he coached Jordan Addison, the Biletnikoff Award winner and first-round NFL draft pick.

With this critical hire, Colorado is looking to turn the tide and create a more competitive team in the upcoming season. The Buffaloes’ fans can expect a fresh offensive strategy designed to engage and excite as the new season approaches.

Marion expressed his gratitude and commitment, stating, “Humbled to be sought out by the best to ever do it in football — Coach Prime. It’s my mission to make sure we put a great product on the field that the entire CU family can be proud of!”

As this story develops, fans will be keenly watching how Marion’s leadership influences the Buffaloes’ performance in 2024. Stay tuned for further updates on this significant coaching change.
