UPDATE: Beverly D’Angelo, the celebrated star of “National Lampoon,” has revealed in a recent interview that she likely sacrificed a “bigger career” after becoming a mother at age 49. The actress, now 73, welcomed twins Anton and Olivia Pacino with actor Al Pacino in 2001 and reflects on her decision to prioritize motherhood over acting opportunities.

During a candid discussion with People magazine, D’Angelo stated, “If I would have been more focused, maybe I would have had a bigger career, but I was focused on my kids, to tell you the truth.” The actress and Pacino, who were in a relationship from 1996 to 2003, conceived their children through in vitro fertilization (IVF), a process that began in 1997.

D’Angelo humorously advised, “Don’t try it at home,” referencing her late-life parenting journey. She noted the generational divide between herself and the parents of her children’s classmates, explaining that they “didn’t really have the same references.”

The actress first gained fame in 1980 for her portrayal of Patsy Cline in “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” earning a Golden Globe nomination. However, she became a household name as Ellen Griswold opposite Chevy Chase in the iconic 1983 comedy “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” a role she reprised in several sequels.

In her interview, D’Angelo emphasized her choice for a quieter lifestyle for her children, steering clear of the typical Hollywood culture. She revealed that she only realized how popular “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” had become when her children mentioned that it was a topic of conversation at school. “I did not raise my kids in that culture,” she stated.

D’Angelo’s reflections offer a deeper insight into her relationship with Pacino, who has four children, including Anton and Olivia, and recently became a father again at age 83. In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, she recounted how their love story began on a flight from Los Angeles to New York in 1996 and how they built a unique friendship and co-parenting relationship over the years.

As D’Angelo continues to navigate her life as a mother and actress, her recent comments resonate with many who balance career ambitions with family commitments. Fans of both D’Angelo and Pacino are encouraged to share their thoughts on this compelling narrative, reflecting the ongoing conversation about the choices women make in the entertainment industry.
