92-Year-Old Edna Shinstine Passes Away; Funeral Scheduled
UPDATE: Edna Carol Ann Shinstine, aged 92, of New Hampton, has passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Accura HealthCare. Her family is inviting friends to pay their respects during an evening gathering this Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, where a Rosary service will commence at 3 p.m. followed by a Parish Scripture Service at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on December 1, 2025, at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, with the Rev. Chris Podjahsky officiating. Edna will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery, where her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Edna Shinstine was renowned for her deep devotion to family and faith. Surrounded by loved ones in her final moments, she prayed the Rosary, reflecting her lifelong commitment to her beliefs. Her legacy includes eight children, 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Born on March 25, 1933, to Charles and Emma Kriz near Lawler, Edna was the youngest of three children. Growing up in rural New Hampton, she appreciated the simple joys of country living. Edna began her education in a local country school, excelling in both academics and the skills of daily life, including cooking and farming.
At just 16, she showcased her talent as a waitress and pie maker at the local diner. Edna found love with Don Shinstine on a double date, marrying him on June 20, 1951, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Together, they embraced a fulfilling life on their farm, raising their eight children and creating a home filled with laughter and adventure.
After retiring from farming in 1990, Edna and Don settled back in New Hampton, continuing to enjoy family gatherings and their mutual love for dance. Edna’s diverse roles as a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and skilled caretaker were enriched by her passion for gardening, sewing, and baking, ensuring a loving home for her family.
Edna also served her community as a lay minister, teaching religion classes and bringing communion to those unable to attend church. Her unwavering faith and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Don, in 2017, and daughter-in-law, Beverly Shinstine, in 2023, among other family members. As family and friends gather to honor her memory, Edna’s legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire those she touched.
