UPDATE: A serious crash on Sunday evening has left a 65-year-old Elkhart woman hospitalized. At 6:20 PM, deputies reported that Connie Swathwood failed to yield at a stop sign while driving a 2011 Toyota on Walorski Parkway, colliding with a 2004 Hyundai SUV driven by Luis Chiquito, 21, also from Elkhart. Swathwood was rushed to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

This incident is part of a troubling trend, as authorities continue to investigate multiple traffic-related incidents in the area. In another crash just hours earlier, at 3:28 PM, Olivia Cripe, 19, was involved in a three-vehicle collision near Middlebury on Ind. 120. Cripe’s 2015 Chevrolet Malibu struck a stopped 2006 Jeep Liberty, causing a serious chain reaction that sent one passenger to the hospital with neck injuries. Cripe has been cited for following too closely and unsafe lane movement.

Additionally, law enforcement officials are responding to reports of violent incidents and property crimes in the region. A 27-year-old Goshen woman reported a hit-and-run at 7:23 PM on Friday, while a 50-year-old man reported that his bus was struck by a black SUV that fled the scene early Friday morning.

Police activity has surged, with several arrests made over the weekend. A 27-year-old Goshen man was taken into custody for operating a vehicle under the influence at 1:38 AM on Friday. Similarly, a 28-year-old Goshen man was arrested for battery and resisting law enforcement after a fight early Sunday morning.

In a concerning report of criminal recklessness, a 70-year-old woman notified deputies that a bullet came through her roof and landed in her dining room, highlighting a growing concern for community safety.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant as police continue their investigations. With multiple incidents reported, community leaders are calling for increased awareness and safety measures to prevent further accidents.

As this story develops, we will provide updates on the conditions of those injured and any further police action. Stay tuned for more urgent news as we keep you informed on the latest incidents impacting the Elkhart area.
