UPDATE: The Colorado Avalanche continue their dominant run, securing a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on October 29, 2023. Scott Wedgewood delivered a stellar performance, making 22 saves for his first shutout of the season, propelling the Avalanche to their ninth consecutive win.

This victory not only highlights Colorado’s strength but also marks the team’s longest winning streak since March 2024. The Avalanche now boast an impressive record of 16-1-5, remaining unbeaten in their last 13 games with 11 wins and 2 overtime losses since their only regulation defeat to the Boston Bruins on October 25.

Cale Makar scored the game’s only goal late in the second period, capitalizing on a rebound. This goal, set up by Tristen Nielsen, marked Makar’s ninth of the season and extended his lead among NHL defensemen. The Avalanche’s offensive push was evident as they outshot the Blackhawks 19-1 in the second period.

Despite being outplayed in the first period, where Colorado managed only 2 shots compared to Chicago’s 11, Wedgewood’s exceptional stops kept the game scoreless. His best save came against Ryan Green, who was left alone in front of the net.

The Blackhawks, now on a three-game losing streak, struggled to capitalize on their early dominance and could not find the back of the net, despite pulling their goalie in the final moments of the game for an extra attacker.

As both teams prepare for their next matches, the Avalanche look to continue their streak against the San Jose Sharks at home on Wednesday, while the Blackhawks will face the Minnesota Wild on the same day.

With Wedgewood leading the NHL in wins and maintaining a league-best 2.23 goals-against average, the Avalanche are solidifying their position as a top contender this season. Fans around the league are eager to see if Colorado can keep their momentum going in the upcoming games.
