UPDATE: In an electrifying performance, the No. 17 Vanderbilt women’s basketball team dismantled Tennessee State with a staggering score of 99-43 on Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee. This decisive victory marks Vanderbilt’s third consecutive season starting at 6-0, showcasing their dominance on the court.

Mikayla Blakes led the charge, scoring 24 points, while teammates Aubrey Galvan and Sacha Washington contributed significantly with double-doubles. Galvan notched 16 points and 15 assists, just two shy of the program record, while Washington added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Justine Pissott also chipped in with 12 points for the Commodores.

The game started explosively for Vanderbilt. Blakes ignited a 19-0 run in the first quarter, propelling the team to a commanding 31-6 lead by the end of the period. The Commodores continued to dominate, featuring a blistering 21-0 run in the second quarter, extending their lead to 52-6 early on. Tennessee State struggled, making only three field goals in the first half and committing 19 turnovers that led to 26 points for Vanderbilt, who held a staggering 56-10 advantage at halftime.

Galvan’s impressive performance included scoring 12 consecutive points during the third quarter, as the lead ballooned to 58 points. Heading into the final period, Vanderbilt led 81-27. The Commodores maintained their dominance, pushing their lead to as much as 61 points with free throws from Monique Williams in the final minutes.

Tennessee State’s Aaniya Webb was the standout for the Tigers, scoring 16 points, but the team struggled overall, shooting only 27% from the field and suffering 29 turnovers. This loss brings Tennessee State’s record to 1-5 for the season.

With this victory, Vanderbilt continues its winning streak against Tennessee State, now at 16 straight games. The Commodores are set to face Oregon State on Thursday at the Paradise Jam, eager to extend their unbeaten run.
