UPDATE: The South Iowa Cedar League (SICL) has just announced its all-conference volleyball team, spotlighting standout players from the region. Colfax-Mingo senior Britney Keeney and Lynnville-Sully senior Tatum Huyser have both earned prestigious first-team honors, affirming their impact during the season.

Keeney, who ranked fifth in the SICL with 104 kills, showcased her skills across multiple categories, finishing sixth in blocks and ninth in aces. Meanwhile, Huyser led her team with impressive statistics, tallying 77 kills, 142 digs, and ranking fifth in the league with 28 blocks. Their achievements highlight a season filled with competitive spirit and determination.

This announcement is significant as it recognizes players’ performances in conference play, making it a vital accolade for aspiring athletes. The SICL Coach of the Year was awarded to Tim Burgess of conference champion Montezuma, whose leadership has been pivotal this season.

In addition to Keeney and Huyser, Colfax-Mingo junior Katelyn Steenhoek also received a second-team selection, demonstrating the strength of local talent. Steenhoek’s season was marked by 160 assists, ranking her 10th in the conference, along with second place in aces and a first-place finish in successful serves.

The honorable mentions included Lynnville-Sully’s Kate Harthoorn, along with Colfax-Mingo’s Grace Hunsberger and Grace Allen. Each player significantly contributed to their teams, with Harthoorn recording 124 digs and Hunsberger notching 52 kills. Allen ranked eighth in the SICL with 177 digs.

As the volleyball season wraps up, all-conference recognition provides motivation for players to strive for excellence in future competitions. Fans are encouraged to celebrate these athletes’ hard work and dedication.

With the SICL standings reflecting a competitive environment, Montezuma led the league with a perfect 10-0 record, followed by North Mahaska and HLV/TC, both at 8-2.
