Ramapo Stuns Phillipsburg 41-20 in NJSIAA Group 4 Semifinals
UPDATE: In a stunning turnaround, the No. 8 Ramapo football team triumphed over No. 12 Phillipsburg with a decisive score of 41-20 in the NJSIAA Group 4 semifinals on November 21, 2025. This victory not only avenges last year’s loss but propels Ramapo into the championship showdown.
With the echoes of their previous defeat lingering in his mind, quarterback Casey Grusser led the charge, scoring two touchdowns and throwing for another. Ramapo scored on six of their first seven possessions, racking up a total of 325 yards of offense, including 159 rushing yards.
Arriving at Maloney Stadium, Grusser recalled, “I don’t want this to happen again. We really needed this one today and we did just that.” His words reflect the determination that fueled Ramapo throughout the game.
Ramapo’s head coach, Nick Guttuso, praised his team, saying, “We’ve talked about coming back here and getting a chance to play them again. I’m really thrilled that our kids came out and prepared all year.” This victory is a testament to Ramapo’s resolve and preparation after last year’s defeat.
The scoring began early with Liam Hayward running for a 3-yard touchdown just under 11 minutes into the first quarter. Phillipsburg responded, but Ramapo regained control with a strong offensive performance that kept the pressure on.
As the game progressed, Ramapo’s dominance was evident. By the end of the second quarter, they held a commanding lead, capped off by a touchdown from Grusser just before halftime.
Looking ahead, Ramapo is set to compete for the overall Group 4 state championship against the winner of the Winslow-Brick Memorial matchup, with the date and location yet to be determined.
This victory not only marks a significant moment for the Ramapo team but also highlights their resilience and commitment, making it a game to remember in the annals of New Jersey high school football.
