Lainey Wilson Dominates 2025 CMA Awards with Three Major Wins
Lainey Wilson triumphed at the 2025 Country Music Association Awards, claiming the coveted title of Entertainer of the Year on Wednesday night. The event took place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, where Wilson not only hosted and performed but also barely left the stage. In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to her supporters, stating, “It takes a village. We about to party.”
Wilson faced stiff competition from notable artists such as Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, and Morgan Wallen, the previous year’s winner in this category. Alongside her entertainer accolade, Wilson also secured the award for Album of the Year with her project “Whirlwind,” marking her second win in this category. Additionally, she received the Female Vocalist of the Year award, her fourth time achieving this title.
In a powerful moment during her speech, Wilson highlighted the importance of supporting women in country music. She directed a pointed message at those who undermine female artists, saying, “For the folks that are sitting at home, in your mama’s basement, eating your Cheetos, trying to pit women against each other, y’all need to find something better to do.”
The 59th annual CMA Awards, which aired live on ABC, also celebrated other standout artists. Ella Langley and Riley Green enjoyed a significant night, as their hit song “You Look Like You Love Me” won both Single of the Year and Song of the Year. Langley remarked, “This song is the gift that keeps on giving,” while Green added, “How cool is it that a song with talking verses wins Song of the Year?”
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award to the legendary Vince Gill. He was honored with a performance of his classic “When I Call Your Name” by Brandi Carlile and Patty Loveless. George Strait, who presented the award, praised Gill’s immense talent, stating, “He’s just an immense talent. And oh, yeah, he plays with The Eagles.” Gill’s acceptance speech was filled with humor, as he joked about his vocal tone and commented on being the only person to win the award “that’s never smoked any weed,” referencing Nelson.
The evening also saw Brooks & Dunn win the Vocal Duo of the Year award for the 16th time, with Kix Brooks humorously responding to questions about their longevity in the industry by saying, “Hell no!” Cody Johnson received the Male Vocalist of the Year award, his first in this category.
The show was kicked off by Luke Combs, who delivered an electrifying performance of his single “Back in the Saddle.” Following his set, Wilson launched into a spirited medley, joined by surprise guests including Little Big Town and Keith Urban. The night was filled with dynamic performances from various artists, including Moroney, Stapleton, Kelsea Ballerini, and Kenny Chesney.
In a notable moment, Zach Top won the New Artist of the Year award after performing his song “Guitar.” He humorously remarked during his speech, “I can’t remember if I was supposed to put my beer down first or not,” before taking a sip.
The CMA Awards are determined by members of the Country Music Association, including music executives, artists, publicists, songwriters, and other industry professionals. The 2025 ceremony highlighted not only the achievements of individual artists but also the collaborative spirit that drives the country music community.
For those who missed the live broadcast, the awards ceremony will be available for streaming on Hulu starting Thursday.
