Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry have both indicated they are unlikely to compete for the United States men’s basketball team at the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. This announcement came during a recent episode of the “Mind the Game” podcast, where the two future Hall of Famers discussed their thoughts on Olympic participation.
James, who will be 43 years old at the time of the Olympics, made his position clear. “You already know my answer,” he stated. “I will be watching it.” His comments reflect a definitive stance on his future in Olympic basketball, suggesting he will not be taking the court again on such a significant stage.
Curry, who will have just turned 40, was less emphatic but also suggested that his involvement is unlikely. When asked by co-host Steve Nash about his potential participation, Curry responded, “God willing, I still have the choice and physical option where I could impact the team. Never say never, but I highly doubt it. Highly doubt it.”
Both athletes have had significant Olympic experiences in the past. James has competed in four Olympic Games, securing a bronze medal in 2004 and gold medals in 2008, 2012, and 2024. Curry made his Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Games, where he delivered a memorable performance in the gold medal match against France, helping secure victory for Team USA.
