Two Dead in Domestic Shooting in Gilroy, Suspect Found Injured

UPDATE: A devastating shooting incident in unincorporated Gilroy has left two men dead, including a 68-year-old victim, following a domestic-related altercation. Authorities responded to the scene just before 3:30 PM on November 16, after receiving reports of gunfire at a residence on Sheldon Avenue.

Witnesses informed the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office that a family member had shot the victim and then barricaded himself inside the garage. In response, deputies deployed additional resources, including an armored vehicle, drone surveillance, and multiple specialized teams such as the Emergency Response Team and the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team.

Once officers entered the residence, they discovered the victim had succumbed to his injuries, with a pronouncement of death occurring at 4:17 PM. In the wake of the shooting, nearby mobile homes and residences were evacuated as tactical teams worked to establish communication with the barricaded suspect.

Over the course of more than eight hours, deputies made numerous attempts to persuade the suspect to surrender, employing both announcements and direct phone calls. The tense standoff ended when deputies utilized a drone and located the suspect inside the garage, where he appeared to have sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detectives from the sheriff’s Investigative Services Division have taken over the crime scene, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
