Mitchell Board of Education to Set New District Goals on Nov. 18
The Mitchell Board of Education will convene on November 18 to review potential new district goals that aim to enhance educational experiences within the community. The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Muth Commons located in the Mitchell Technical College Campus Center.
Earlier this month, the board held a work session where district administration sought input on future priorities. Discussions included the possibility of initiating a preschool program; however, the board opted not to pursue this option immediately. Instead, they identified several other areas for further exploration. Key goals to be revisited include fostering empowering instructional environments, enhancing staff connection and well-being, and cultivating transformative partnerships between homes and schools.
Focus Areas for District Improvement
The goal of creating empowering instructional environments seeks to ensure that every classroom operates as an effective hub for learning. This initiative emphasizes fully supporting the teaching staff to facilitate uninterrupted educational experiences.
Strengthening staff connection and engagement is another priority. This involves fostering a collaborative and professional school culture where teamwork and recognition are at the forefront. The board believes that a motivated staff will enhance the overall educational experience for students.
Additionally, the board aims to build transformative home/school relationships. This strategy recognizes parents and community stakeholders as essential partners in the success of students, advocating for transparency and collaboration between the school and families.
The meeting agenda will provide a detailed breakdown of these goals, allowing community members to understand the board’s vision for the district.
Personnel Changes and Other Business
In addition to discussing district goals, the board will review personnel changes. New certified hires include Timothy Wagner as a volunteer assistant wrestling coach and Jenesa Vanden Hoek as a middle school oral interpretation advisor, both effective for the 2025-26 school year. Other notable hires include Brittney Davis-Schacht and Trevor Harms, who will join the maintenance staff at a rate of $20 and $21 per hour, respectively, effective October 31.
The meeting will also address the retirement of Suzanne Skinner, a family and consumer science teacher at both Mitchell Middle School and Mitchell High School, effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year.
The board intends to consider the approval of a resolution authorizing the refinancing of Vocational Education Bonds. Additionally, members will hear updates on current projects in agriculture and business at Mitchell Technical College and review Policy 1084 on its first reading.
An executive session will take place to discuss contract negotiations with employees or their representatives. The public is invited to attend, and the meeting will be livestreamed by the Mitchell Republic on its website, ensuring transparency and community engagement.
