Border Patrol Launches Immigration Enforcement in Charlotte
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) initiated an immigration enforcement operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, on the morning of November 15, 2025. This marks the first time CBP has conducted immigration enforcement in a city without coordinating operations with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The operation began on South Boulevard, near the Baleada Bar and Grill, where the first reported encounter occurred. Witnesses have described tense interactions with CBP agents, including one incident involving Willie Aciutno, who was having breakfast when he noticed officers pursuing two individuals.
As Aciutno returned to his vehicle, he discovered three CBP vehicles surrounding his truck. An officer questioned him about his immigration status. Aciutno recounted his response: “Why do you ask that?” He described a harrowing moment when he attempted to start his car.
“When I tried to start my car, all the other cars stopped to me,” Aciutno said. “In one minute, the officer said, ‘Hey, open the door,’ and I was scared because it was two to three minutes since I came for breakfast to go to work.”
When Aciutno did not comply, the officer shattered the window to gain access to the vehicle. “He broke [the window], opened the door, and [it was too] hard to pull me out,” he added, highlighting the intensity of the encounter.
In another part of the city, agents were observed handcuffing a woman who claimed to be a U.S. citizen, indicating the broad scope of the operation. Reports also indicated that agents were questioning individuals involved in setting up Christmas lights, further raising concerns among local residents.
The enforcement operation has prompted a mixed response from the community, drawing both criticism and support at various levels. Local, state, and federal officials continue to discuss the implications of CBP’s actions in Charlotte, reflecting a broader national debate on immigration enforcement policies.
As the situation develops, WCNC Charlotte will provide ongoing coverage and updates regarding the enforcement operation and its impact on the community.
