Skyline Pitch Transforms Parking Structure into Soccer Haven
A new soccer facility known as Skyline Pitch has opened atop the Americana at Brand, a popular shopping center in Glendale, California. This innovative venue features two rooftop soccer fields, a panna cage for small-sided games, a fut tennis court, and various interactive play areas, all designed to enhance the soccer experience for players of all ages and skill levels.
Skyline Pitch spans 25,000 square feet and was developed by the Chicago-based marketing agency Elemento L2. The facility opened its doors this fall, transforming what was once a concrete parking structure into a vibrant community space for soccer enthusiasts. Visitors can engage in the sport through 15 different activities while enjoying amenities like lounge areas, food service, and live music on special nights.
Meeting the Demand for Soccer Facilities
The establishment of Skyline Pitch addresses a significant challenge for soccer players in Los Angeles: the scarcity of available fields. “Finding somewhere to play is the hardest thing,” said Matthew Bambrick, founder of SoCal Youth Sports, which has partnered with Skyline Pitch to offer training camps. “Finding underutilized spaces or space that can be revitalized in different ways is really, really clever. This should be the blueprint.”
The decision to launch a second Skyline Pitch location in Los Angeles, following the first in Chicago, was influenced by the city’s rich soccer culture. According to Ivan Lopez, co-founder of Elemento L2, Los Angeles is poised to host significant soccer events, including the FIFA World Cup in the summer of 2026, making it a prime location for such a facility. “The stadiums are jam-packed whether it’s the Gold Cup, World Cup, or UEFA Nations League,” Lopez noted, emphasizing the enthusiasm for soccer in the region.
A Community Hub for Soccer Enthusiasts
Skyline Pitch offers various pricing options, with pickup games starting at $15 and field rentals beginning at $150. An activity pass is available for $20, granting access for two hours. The venue can also host private events, including birthday parties.
Local partnerships enhance the facility’s offerings, with organizations such as Cal South Soccer and Soccer Stars Los Angeles involved in programming. Former national soccer team player Jimmy Conrad serves as a brand ambassador for Skyline Pitch. Reflecting on the facility’s impact, Conrad expressed a desire for such a dedicated venue during his youth in Los Angeles, where proper facilities were lacking. “Having a dedicated venue with the proper goals and lines just raises the cool factor,” he stated.
Skyline Pitch exemplifies a growing trend of integrating athletic facilities into shopping centers, catering to the demand for communal experiences. As retail spaces evolve to meet consumer interests, venues like Skyline Pitch could pave the way for future developments in urban areas. With its unique offerings and strategic location, Skyline Pitch is set to become a cornerstone of the soccer community in Los Angeles.
