Urgent Appeal After Chickens Stolen from Food Bank Foundation

UPDATE: Two beloved chickens, Marge and Bridget, have been stolen from the Yasmine McClory Foundation in Sutton on Trent, leaving the community and the foundation “gutted.” This urgent theft comes as the foundation gears up for its annual campaign to support local food banks during the holiday season, making the timing even more devastating.

The Yasmine McClory Foundation, established in memory of Yasmine McClory who tragically passed away in February 2024, has been a beacon of hope for those facing food poverty. The foundation, run by Yasmine’s family, including her father, Jason McClory, has provided fresh eggs harvested from rescue chickens to Bassetlaw Food Bank, contributing hundreds of pounds worth of eggs to those in need.

Just yesterday, on December 5, 2024, the foundation confirmed the theft of Marge and Bridget, both crucial to their mission. A spokesperson for the charity expressed deep frustration, stating,

“To whoever went into our field yesterday and stole two chickens… I hope you know that you stole from a non-profit foundation that gives all its eggs to food banks and homeless shelters. I hope you’re happy, I am gutted.”

The foundation has since released photos of the stolen chickens—a Buff Orpington and a Brakel—in hopes of locating them. The theft has sparked outrage among community members, who rely on the foundation’s contributions to ease food insecurity.

In a determined effort to continue their work, the Yasmine McClory Foundation has relaunched its “Christmas Treats for Local Food Banks and Homeless Shelters” campaign. This initiative aims to raise £300 to purchase festive items like biscuit tins, chocolates, and selection boxes for local food banks and shelters. Jess McClory, Yasmine’s sister, stated, “The response last year was truly heart-warming. This year, we want to go even further.”

During last year’s campaign, over 80 kg of food was distributed to each participating food bank, including festive items like gammon joints and selection boxes that helped hundreds enjoy a nourishing Christmas meal. Donations for this year’s appeal can be made through the foundation’s GoFundMe page or by contacting them directly at [email protected].

As the foundation prepares for the busy holiday season, donations will be collected through mid-December, with distribution planned for the week leading up to Christmas. The community is urged to come together to support this vital cause during an already challenging time.

The urgent need to locate Marge and Bridget underscores a broader issue of food insecurity in the region. As the Yasmine McClory Foundation works tirelessly to provide for those in need, the theft of these chickens not only impacts their supply of eggs but also the emotional well-being of a family dedicated to honoring Yasmine’s legacy.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story, and consider contributing to the foundation’s efforts to spread holiday cheer during this critical time.
