Urgent Recall: Over 300,000 Jeeps at Risk of Catching Fire
URGENT UPDATE: In a critical safety announcement, over 300,000 Jeep vehicles are being recalled due to a potential fire risk linked to faulty battery packs. The affected models include the Jeep Wrangler 4Xe (model years 2020 to 2025) and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (model years 2022 to 2026), as confirmed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The NHTSA reports that approximately 5% of these SUVs possess a defect that could lead to a vehicle fire, posing a significant risk to both occupants and nearby individuals. Stellantis and Chrysler are currently developing a remedy, but no solution is available yet. Affected Jeep owners are urged to take immediate precautions: park their vehicles outside, away from structures and other cars, and avoid recharging the battery to mitigate the fire risk.
The recall stems from a defect in the high-voltage battery pack, where cells are “susceptible to separator damage.” According to the NHTSA, this issue can combine with other interactions within the battery cells, which may eventually lead to a fire. Stellantis has documented 19 customer assistance records and field reports related to this fire risk between January 28 and September 2, 2025, including 1 reported injury linked to the issue. Jeep owners will receive notifications regarding the recall by December 2, 2025, while dealers will be informed around November 6, 2025.
